Characters very rarely provide info-dumps unless they fit into what’s occurring on the page at that moment, which makes the characters feel more real and makes the gradual understanding of their motivations all the more interesting. Matt is a great main character as he reacts to situations in reasonable and believable ways, making the story that much easier and enjoyable to read.
The more so because they feel authentic to the world of the story. He narrowly survives a deadly attack by the fanatical Babelites, who are opposed to humans reaching the heavens. The plot moves along at a good pace. His gang of pirates plunder the ship of all valuables and kill the chief wireless officer.
A small warning and minimal spoiler: Lost is a about survivors of a plane crash who get stranded on a mysterious island.

Of course, being a Verne-style adventure, there are sky pirates, tempestuous weather, dangerous beasts, and a desert island. Kate is smart, bold, and courageous — but she can be overzealous in pursuit of her goals. It might appear to be more of a “boy book”, but there is a main character who is a girl, so there’s someone girls can relate to, and a kenbeth of wholesome romance.
I’m sorry, but to speak plainly; he’s in love with the airship, with the idea of flying, aaaand The airships, the characters, pirates, mythical beasts come to life, skeptical scientists, daring girls, snooty chaperones, brave captains, vivacious cooks, and a airbprn, brave, excelling cabin boy.
She’s incredibly reckless and thoughtless, and not just with her own safety. I did love the adventure part and it would be great for a boy!
The Globe and Mail. I think somewhere I had heard there be dragons. The dialogue is incredibly gripping and the descriptions of this alternate world are amazingly evocative. I think this would be a great book to read to kids that were not old enough to read it themselves.
I’ve never shipped characters in a book for school this much before. Kenneth Oppel Airborn Series Embed. I believe had this book been told in another way it wouldn’t have been so repetative. But despite the pirates and the very real danger presented to themselves and others they care about, our heroes never resort to violent solutions.
Lists with This Book. Kenneth Oppel was unknown to me, although he has been writing for some time, partly because his kenneh books seem to have been aimed at a younger audience. They prefer to think their way out of their problems.
